About Item
Brinjal seeds are typically sown in nursery beds about 8–10 weeks before transplanting; seedlings are moved to the main field at around 30–35 days old. For most varieties, seed rate is roughly 400–500 g per hectare, while hybrid lines need only about 200 g per hectare. Plants are usually spaced 60 cm × 45–60 cm, depending on variety and soil type, to allow good airflow and easy harvest.
Growing and performance
Brinjal is a warm‑season crop, performing well in June–July and October–November planting windows in many regions. It prefers well‑drained, fertile soils with full sun and moderate irrigation, giving first picking around 60–70 days after transplanting in many early‑maturing hybrids. The fruits are used widely in curries and stir‑fries and are also valued in traditional medicine for digestion, anti‑inflammatory, and antioxidant‑like properties
